Moelis & Company

Moelis & Company is an American global independent investment bank that provides financial advisory services to a diverse client base, including corporations, governments and financial sponsors. The firm advises its clients on strategic decisions such as mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations and restructurings and other corporate finance matters.〔(Moelis & Company Overview ) ''Company Website''〕

Moelis was founded in July 2007 shortly before the financial crisis of 2007-08 by Ken Moelis and a number of his partners including Navid Mahmoodzadegan and Jeffrey Raich.〔 The firm initially opened for business in New York and Los Angeles and immediately began advising clients on a number of large and complex transactions. These mandates led the firm to be a top 10 ranked M&A advisor in the U.S. in their first full year of operations.
The firm is headquartered in New York with 17 offices in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.〔(Moelis & Company History ) ''Company Website''〕 It has 650 employees including 450 investment bankers. Of the 100 managing directors, averaging more than 20 years of experience each, 66 are former sector and product heads.〔
In April 2014, the firm completed its initial public offering and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Moelis & Company Form 8-K )

In February 2015, the firm opened its Washington DC office, following the hire of Eric Cantor, Former House Majority Leader, in September 2014.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-02-24/moelis-s-cantor-to-seek-out-tech-defense-clients-in-washington ), February 24, 2015〕 It was reported in November 2015 that Cantor had helped the firm land an advisory role on Pfizer's tax-inversion with Allergan, the largest healthcare deal in history and the largest deal of 2015.

In June 2014, Moelis established a private funds advisory business and hired four executives to provide capital raising, secondary and other independent advisory services to private fund sponsors and limited partners.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/06/16/moelis-creates-private-equity-fund-raising-team-by-hiring-from-a-rival/?_r=0 ), June 16, 2014〕

In March 2014, the firm expanded into South America with the opening of its office in São Paulo, Brazil.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/03/11/finance-brazil-moelis-idUKL2N0M81LQ20140311 ), March 11, 2014〕 Soon after, Moelis advised state oil giant Petrobras on $127.0 billion in capital markets and debt markets strategies related to liability management.
In July 2013, Moelis was announced as the adviser to Omnicom on the $35.1 billion merger with Publicis to form Publicis Omnicom. The deal was conspicuous due to the total absence of large investment banks (Rothschild advised Publicis). The use of two independent investment banks was credited with keeping the transformational deal a secret until a late stage.
In June 2011, Moelis announced the formation of its Global Advisory Board with the appointment of five members with global financial, government and economic experience who provide senior counsel and strategic advice on industry issues particularly across international financial markets. The current Advisory Chairman is Lord Charles Allen.
